Last Friday we opened registration for the 17th Annual Women in Gaming Luncheon at GDC and were met with an incredible response – tickets sold out in the first hour and a half, and for those that were able to snag a spot, we want to say THANK YOU!
Capacity has always been a challenge for our event – year after year our industry is growing and there is always more demand for tickets to the WiG luncheon than we can supply. It’s one of those good problems to have, but a problem nonetheless since we strive to bring together as many women as possible. We wanted to give everyone the information on how we are working to manage the demand and what you can do if you want to attend the WiG luncheon but missed out on a ticket.
How we are managing positive growth
In years past the Women in Gaming luncheon has been held in the ballroom at the St. Regis Hotel – a lovely venue for women to come together and have a formal sit-down lunch. However, we were always capped at a capacity of 280, which meant turning away more and more interested women each year. The priority for us this year was to accommodate more women, and in order to do so, we’ve had to move venues. This year’s luncheon will be held at the large open space at 111 Minna Gallery – a local San Francisco art gallery just a few blocks from the Moscone Centre. This beautiful space has allowed us to increase our capacity to just over 350 women!
- Lunch Format
The space in 111 Minna is designed for a mix of sitting and standing room to better enable networking and an inclusive atmosphere. We’ve had to change lunch from a sit-down meal to a mix of passed apps, a buffet of vegan, vegetarian and meat lunch options including a full sandwich bar, and deserts. We are working with a fantastic caterer to ensure a variety of fresh dishes so that everyone enjoys themselves. We will post the full menu on the Women in Gaming twitter before the event for attendees to review.
- Live Streaming
Finally, we will be live streaming the Women in Gaming luncheon for those that cannot attend in person. Stay tuned for streaming details shortly.
Super Duper Important Policy: 111 Minna is a 21 and Over establishment. We cannot permit entrance to anyone under 21 due to Municipal laws. Please ensure you bring a legal form of identification with you to the event. If you are under 21 and have a ticket, we will not be able to allow you into the venue. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we must abide by all the laws to keep everyone safe!
Tickets & Waitlist Info
- For those that successfully registered for a ticket – congrats, we can’t wait to see you! However, we know life happens! We kindly ask that if your plans change and you can no longer attend the WiG luncheon to please cancel your Eventbrite ticket so we can ensure attendance for another woman.
- For those who missed out on tickets – we will have a waitlist at the door of 111 Minna Gallery (the 2nd Street Entrance) starting at 11:30am on Thursday, March 2. At 12:30pm, once we have closed registration for ticket holders, we will start to accept from the waitlist line.
We’re excited to share more information in the coming weeks and appreciate the ongoing support from this amazing community of women! We can’t wait to see you at the luncheon!
